So I just had to get out of the car and take a picture of this!! I have never seen in California where they would just close a exit to the main highway with a gate!! They had them everywhere. 
Good thing we had a driver. ( thanks Tim) Which way do you go?? It was like mini LA options with corn everywhere and no overpasses!!
they must use a gate because they do it often, maybe when they're herding cattle or something lol.
